Multiplication and Division

I Turned The Question Into 100x11 (doubling and halving)

I made it 8 x 16 = 
8 x 8 = 64
Double 64 = 128


My next goal is to continue joining in more in maths sessions and to complete follow ups. 
       

Writing - Kraken Teaser

WALT write a moment in time using a picture prompt

I  saw the looming whale above me as I knocked it out of the water, grabbed it, then ate it.

I saw a tiny little man snapping photos and flashing my eyes. I saw him dragged into a van. I started chasing the van. I decided it wasn’t worth the risk. I wondered what on earth were they thinking. I saw several drones snapping photos of me. I smashed a few but there were a lot. I started towards a big building.

It was a sunny day by the ocean, hundreds of people were lying on the nice warm sand to see the whale migration heading south. Some lucky people were even out in boats or so they thought they were lucky. After a few whales passed by a giant 100 tonne whale was sent over 50 metres into the air then suddenly grabbed by massive tentacles, easily 400 feet long.

Last week the year 5's went on a camp for 2 days.

My favourite activity was archery because i hit the target twice. My favourite free time activity was the mini golf.


Literacy Week

Literacy Week

This week was literacy week we did lots of fun activities. Like a scavenger hunt dress up. We also did other things such as stop drop and write and stop drop and read.

I enjoyed all the activities like the the scavenger hunt for 12 awesome golden tickets. It got everybody looking for them. I also enjoyed the dress up. I dressed up as a Rugby league Player.

IALT Write an effective persuasive Argument.

So What?
You need to include an Introduction, and a conclusion.
You also need to use different language features such as 'for these reasons...' which is an ending.

I am learning to understand how words are formed using roots, prefixes and suffixes.


So What?
I have learned that words that have the root hydra- and aqua- mean water. For example Hydrate and Aquaman.


I have learned that words that have the root spect- mean look / see. For example Spectacle And Spectacular

Now what?

I feel that I have a spectacular understanding of the root words aqua-, hydra-, and spect-

What? I have been learning about coding.
There's a lot of numbers.

So What? Write about what you have been doing.


Now What? Next Wednesday at the Open Day we will be demonstrating our learning to students and parent.

IALT: develop my reading comprehension skills

Recently I took an asTTle reading test. I read a number of texts and answered a range of questions to check my understanding and comprehension. The aim is to take a test at a level where I will make some errors so that I can identify what I need to work on to be a more successful reader.

I have looked at the results of my test and identified 3 goals for this term.

My reading goals are:

[1] Consistently read to understand the meaning of a text
[2] Make a conclusion or an assumption
[3] Know what different words mean

# 1 and 2 are about understanding the text, especially by thinking about the text more ‘deeply’.

# 3 is about developing my vocabulary and being able to use the information around a difficult word to make sense of it.

You can help me with [1] and [2] by asking me about the book I am reading at home;
  • about the characters, setting, plot and resolution (fiction)
  • Get me to explain why I believe the characters have acted in certain ways and how this influences the plot and outcome of the story
  • Ask me to make a conclusion about different aspects of the story and encourage me to make assumptions about characters, events, moods and what might have happened in the text if the character [s] acted, behaved, made different choices.

You can help me with [3] by;

  • encouraging me to explain in my own words what I think a word means
  • helping me to identify parts of a word that might help explain its meaning (e.g., in submarine the ‘sub’ means under so that will help with making an educated guess about the meaning of the word
  • encourage me to come up with words that have a similar meaning, or look in a thesaurus for words with similar (synonyms) and opposite meanings (antonyms).

This week I am reflecting on one of my writing goals

IALT: Improve my writing by learning how to:

* use a variety of sentence starters

This week I have been focusing on how to write a drop-in clause

SO WHAT?
Here is an example of a drop-in clause

Mr Forman is our teacher.
He loves his red car.
Mr Forman, who is our teacher, loves his red car.

Mr Forman is the subject of the sentence.
We change ‘He’ to ‘who’
We place commas around the clause we ‘drop-in’

MY EXAMPLES:
Here are two examples of a drop-in clause that I have created.
[1] The footballer, who played for the crusaders, was kicking the ball.
[2] The baby, who had bulging biceps, was crying extremely loud.

On Tuesday the 20th of August All the year four classes went to Arion Farm Park it was a long drive to get there. So as we waited My friends Daniel,William,Charlie

Chooknology

lately we have been working on chooknology we have had different tasks such as get a fruit with limited materials. We had a magnet,newspaper a straw two popsicle sticks and 2 meters of string ,we had to make a source of tecknology, tecknolgy is some man made to help people out with their lives our project was very succesful sadly after getting the fruit someone in our group of 6 broke it just to find the magnet. Turns out the magnet was on the floor but that wasn't the point our main was to build a chicken feeder as the problem was that the food gets dirty whilst on the ground there are 3 main groups the chicken feeder group the water group and the footpath group. I chose the chicken feeder group. after we made our source of tecknology, we got to then choose our own group of 3 my group was was Lillian Karlie and me. we work great together  in fact we are in front of all the other groups until both of them didn't turn up one day that day fell a bit behind that day. Meanwhile where still in front of about half the groups still and that day i didn't work but i planned so the next Thursday we new what to do and don't have to rethink no one like s to rethink.
